“The New Pope” : the first episode in my new video essay series

New popes choose a papal name to signify the direction of their papacy, and Cardinal Prevost chose to be known as Pope Leo XIV and explained why. He also spoke about artificial intelligence.

2 June 2025 — I have embarked on a new adventure: video essays. In this first piece I try to briefly explain the election of the new Pope, Leo XIV, vis-a-vis his choice of name, his rejection by the Trump MAGA cult – and “the call of ritual” : how it stabilizes time and anchors meaning.

These essays will cover a potpourri of subjects, sometimes triggered by a concatenation of events.

With a shout-out to my financial backers, Paul Mandell and Craig Brown, who are now Executive Producers for all video/film productions of Luminative Media. If you’d like to participate, please email me.

With a special shout-out to Marco Vallini, my chief videographer, and my superb Graphic design / visual effects team – – Marco, Catarina Conti and Alexis DuMonte – – for their great mix of real footage, our standard video production software, and now our AI video production software. FYI: that’s really me in the video 😎
